Ildefonso Aguilar (*1945 in Salamanca, lives and works in Lanzarote) is one of the Canary Islands' most outstanding painters. His work is closely linked to the unique landscape of Lanzarote, whose volcanic shapes and colours are reflected in his paintings in an abstract, almost meditative manner. Aguilar's paintings are characterised by a reduced, atmospheric visual language in which materials such as sand, ash and pigments play a central role. His works seem like poetic reflections on time, silence and nature.
In addition to painting, Aguilar also works in the fields of photography, sound art and installation. International exhibitions and major awards - including the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands - recognise his extensive artistic work.
