Ihre Kunst ist vieles zugleich: Figuren im Raum, Architekturbild mit Figur, abstrakte Konstruktion mit Fotografie, Raumillusion. Franziska Schemel (geb. 1961 in Frankfurt a.M.) setzt sich in ihren Bildobjekten inhaltlich mit dem Leben in urbanen Räumen auseinander. Sie markiert Wege des täglichen Umfelds. Perspektivisch verlängert sie diese mit einem Foto ins scheinbar Unendliche. Eine klare Zuordnung erhalten sie in Gängen, Unterführungen oder U-Bahn-Stationen. Personen spielen dabei eine zentrale Rolle.
Franziska Schemel arbeitet mit verschiedenen Materialien wie Acryl, Pigment, Graphit, Sand oder Steinmehl und kombiniert sie eigenen Fotografien.
